We walk families through the estate planning process, diligently defend clients charged with serious crimes, skillfully assist in the purchase or sale of real estate, and so much more.

Our Vision
The Smith Law Office strives to be synonymous with expertise, experience, and excellence. Father and son, David and Patrick Smith, have spent a combined 52 years establishing their methodical approach to the practice of law, and that approach is centered on providing their clients with sound advice and, hopefully, a measure of humanity.

Our firm's highest aim is to deliver highly skilled, effective, and forward thinking legal representation to our clients while carefully maintaining focus on their individual needs. Success in that endeavor looks like our attorneys covering all the bases on a client's real estate transaction, planning for any scenario of a client's estate, and exploring every available defense against a client's criminal charges. ​

For years, David and Patrick Smith have met these aims for their clients. And with their newly-established law firm, they will continue to strive to do so for years to come.

David, a native of Terre Haute, Indiana, has been a member of the Indiana Bar since 1983. Dave has lived in and practiced law in Bedford since 1985. Dave began his legal career as the Chief Deputy Prosecutor in Lawrence County in 1985, and then transitioned into private practice in 1989. Dave has served as the primary legal advisor to the Lawrence County Commissioners as County Attorney since 1993.

In his 33 years of private practice at McIntyre & Smith, Dave gained substantial experience in estate and wealth transfer planning; business and corporate formation and planning; probate and trust administration; elder law and long-term care planning; and in both criminal and real estate law. In recent years, an increasingly large percentage of Dave’s time has involved helping individuals and families plan their estates and for the long-term living and health needs of his clients.

David completed his undergraduate degree at Indiana State University and his law degree at Indiana University McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis in 1983. David's professional associations include the Indiana State Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, the Lawrence County Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and the Hoosier Hills Estate Planning Council.

Dave practices across all of Southern Indiana, and spends the majority of his time in Lawrence, Orange, Monroe, Martin, Washington, Jackson, Daviess and Dubois counties.
